Exminster pre-school news – September 2020

Posted on

Well, the summer holidays passed by very quickly – we hope everyone had an enjoyable summer! We are looking forward to seeing all our returning children, and welcoming the new families who are joining us this term.

Our theme for the Autumn term is animals; we will start by looking at pets, and we hope to have some furry visitors for the children to meet. We will also look at farm animals, jungle animals, those that live in the Artic, the woodlands and the sea. For returning children the Pre-School will look different but we have planned lots of exciting activities to help children settle back in after the long break, focusing on emotional wellbeing.

During the holidays we have been putting all our COVID19  procedures in place. We have new cleaning schedules, risk assessments, and all our staff have received training in our COVID19 policies. If you have any concerns or worries about your child returning and would like more information on our new practices then please contact Leah Barnes exminsterpreschool@gmail.com

Our annual AGM will be held on Thursday 17th September at 7.30pm, venue TBC – please come along and support our fantastic Pre-School.

With the end of the academic year approaching we’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all the parents for the support given to us over the last 12 months. We know things haven’t gone to plan this year but your kind words have been a great motivation.
We will soon be saying goodbye to our Cygnets, we wish you all the best of luck at big school! We have no doubt that you’ll love it. Unfortunately, the Cygnets programme has not been able to run this year but to help with the transition to reception the teachers have been posting stories on Tapestry, read by themselves, and have recorded a virtual tour of the school. We are still hoping to hold a Cygnets presentation, with the possibility of it being virtual, but more details will be given to all Cygnets parents once they have been finalised.
We will continue to provide all the children with weekly learning tasks and activities, these are based on the Early Years curriculum to help with their development. They can be found on Facebook and your child’s tapestry account.
Lastly, we’d like to say a huge Thank you to all the staff who have worked from home and within the Pre-school during this last year – It has definitely been different! Although we do not know what September will bring we hope to welcome back all our Pink Ladies and children for another fun packed year.

Firstly, we’d like to say a big thank you to local builders Matt Rule and Al from Silver Fern and to Suzanne Gee from Exeter Academy of Dance for visiting the children last month and talking about their occupations. The children really enjoyed learning some new dance moves and hearing about what its like to be a builder.

Thank you to everyone who came to our parents evening in February we hope you found these sessions helpful, the pink ladies really do enjoy talking about your children and their development. Huge thanks also to the Foundation teachers Marie Greenslade and Rebecca Barr for organising and coming on the evening, we hope they answered any questions you may of had about school. There will be opportunities for the new starters to speak to their child’s key worker in the Summer Term.

This month’s topic will be ‘growing’. The children will be visiting the allotments; planting some seeds and watching them grow and change over the coming weeks. We will be celebrating World Book Day, taking place on Thursday 5th March, by inviting the children to come dressed up as their favourite book character and reading some of their favourite stories. The children will also be busy crafting special Mother’s Day surprises and making pancakes to celebrate Shrove Tuesday.

We are currently planning our Easter activities and events, which will include our annual Easter Egg Hunt due to take place during the last week of the Spring term. Further information and details will be sent out.

Cygnets sessions for children starting at Exminster Community Primary School in September 2020, will begin in April. Working in partnership with the Reception teachers, these sessions give children the opportunity to become familiar with the school environment whilst in the care of Pre-school staff. The feedback to our unique Cygnets programme is overwhelmingly positive, with parents highlighting in particular that it enables and supports a smooth transition to primary school. An information pack will be sent out to all parents and carers soon.

Term dates: Spring Term: 7th January–26th March, Half term 17th–21st February; Summer Term: 14th April–17th July, Half term 25th–29th May.
